Multiplication and division built out of doubling and halving. ×8 is three doublings. ×9 is ×10 less one group. ÷8 is halving three times. ×5 is half of ×10. Once the method is the thing being practised rather than the answer, a fact you have forgotten stops being a dead end.
The questions run from the small tables up through the elevens and twelves and into “six boxes of 24, how many altogether?” Hints name place value, factors, halving and the distributive property — Ontario’s own term, taught from Grades 5–6.
Coro — chorus. Everyone gets to play.
